Pay to play?

My two lawyer-children tell me that there is an exception to the hearsay rule of evidence called an “Admission against interest.” If you are saying something that hurts your case, the law assumes you are telling the truth. Makes sense to me. Well, here is my admission against interest:

I’m just not that good at selling brokerage yachts.

Not as good, anyway, as at selling new yachts. And that’s been true ever since I was a newbie. True for all of the twenty-five years I’ve been plugging away at this game. Which is why I don’t sell very many brokerage yachts, and list even fewer for sale. Why? Because if I don’t really believe in a yacht, I have a hard time selling her. Life is too short, and …

Yachts that are beat up make my heart hurt.

And if my heart isn’t it, you’d be better served by finding another broker to sell your yacht for you.

Now if that’s not an admission against interest, I don’t know what is!

But the brokerage yachts that I do choose to list and sell, I sell. Reasonably quickly (by industry standards) and (I’ve been told) usually at a fair price. That probably says more about my owners and their yachts than it does about me, but I’ll take it.

So today I write you with updates about two brokerage yachts…

  • That I HAVE listed;

  • That I DO believe in; and,

  • That I encourage YOU to buy.

Why? Because I’m telling they will NOT make your heart (or your pocketbook) hurt.

Yacht #1:

Last week I was in Naples, Florida to see for the first time with my own eyes my 2018 Long Island Yacht 25 Runabout listing. She is, by my standards, in truly exceptional shape. From the paint to the varnish to the cushions, to her <200 engine hours (remember, she is five years young) she really is as close as one can get to as-new condition.

Here are my new photos:

Here is your video walkthrough:

And here is her Yachtworld listing.

Her owner has moved beyond the “pocket yacht” stage, and is buying a brand new, larger yacht. But he tells me what he will miss most about her is this:

  • The constant, head-turned “What the heck is that little beauty?” he hears as he cruises around southwest Florida; And,

  • The ease of docking her with her bow and stern joystick-controlled thrusters.

She can be seen any time at any Naples, seven days a week. I expect she will shortly be the subject of one of my “You snooze, you lose-agrams.” If you don’t want to be on the wrong side of that deliverable, just launch a flare (quickly!)

Ready for another?

Yacht #2

This Monday, August 21st I will be in Westerly, Rhode Island for showings of a yacht who’s superb condition is a given – That would be Karrineh, this 2006 Vicem 54 Express:

Her owner is soon moving up to a larger Vicem, and now is the perfect time for her to enjoy …. you!

Here’s some way cool drone footage for you:

She has been indoor-heated-winter stored for every year of his blank-check ownership, and she now awaits her next “no headaches” owner. That, my loyal clients, could and should be you.

You can find her complete listing here.

Like I said, I’m aboard her in Rhode island  all of next Monday. Be there or be square….

Pay to Play?

What is Big Wave Dave getting at here, one may ask? Well, it’s another admission against interest – albeit one against my industry’s interest (and very much in support of my own).

For as long as I’ve been in the game (evidently I’ve been watching too much of The Wire)…

…. there has been a link – often casual, sometimes not – between the number of ad pages a yacht builder buys in yachting publications, and the quality and prominence  of the resulting reviews. That’s just part of [says Omar] …. “the game, yo.”

When I started working with J Craft – my brilliant builder of the stunning Torpedo 42 luxury dayboat, I was surprised to learn that it has long been J Craft’s policy not to do paid print advertising. Their perspective was, and is, that advertising does not reflect the value provided by their exceptional yachts:

I disclose this as context for you, my loyal clients, so that you may fully and objectively appreciate this just-published review of their fine yacht:

I’m on Shelter Island with this “Most beautiful boat you’ve never heard of” right up until the start of the Newport Boat Show. We await your own, unfiltered and objective review. Trust me, I really want to hear it.

So call, write, launch a flare, throw a rock –  whatever it takes to see the three yachts I’ve talked about here with you today. You will not be dissapointed.

As always, thanks for listening.
